Choosing home care in Victoria: a starter guide

By Editorial team ·

What to look for when comparing home care providers in Victoria, with a focus on questions about Home Care Package eligibility.

Picking a home care provider is a big decision. Most Victorians come to it for the first time after a hospital stay or a doctor's nudge, with little time to research. Start by working out which Home Care Package level fits your needs. The four levels (1 through 4) decide the budget the federal government contributes. My Aged Care assesses; you don't pick the level yourself. Once you have a level, the questions to ask each provider are practical. What is their service-availability window in your suburb? What are the case-management fees? How quickly can they start? Do they roster the same workers, or does it change week to week? This article will be expanded over time as more questions come up in conversation. If your provider does something you wish more providers did, we want to know.
