Men's Sheds
The Bundaberg Central Men’s Shed Association was officially launched, and a management committee elected on 14th June 2012. This followed an initial meeting held on 19th May 2012 to gauge interest in the community to establish a men’s shed in the Bundaberg area. The current membership is twenty eight, with numbers growing steadily each month. In October 2012 we formed an alliance with the Tom Quinn Community Centre in Killer Street Bundaberg, who offered us full use of their commercial joinery workshop and other facilities. We are deeply indebted to the Tom Quinn Community Centre for their generosity. The Tom Quinn Community Centre is owned and operated by the Salvation Army, and has both paid and volunteer staff. Their workshop is used to manufacture a number of items for their own use, and for sale to the public. The workshop is fully equipped with all the modern woodworking machinery and tools imaginable, and is a “boys” delight. For safety reasons our members have to undergo a training and familiarisation period prior to be able to operate the machinery, and sign on as a volunteer, which entitles us to be covered by their insurance scheme. The Bundaberg Central Men's Shed Association is a place where men can get together, join in activities and talk about what's on their mind. Thanks to the Tom Quinn Community Centre we have the use of a fully equipped workshop where skilled and unskilled men can share time with each other, swap yarns and work together on community projects. The Bundaberg Central Men's Shed Association is a charitable not-for-profit association. Since 2014 we have moved to a temporary shed and are to vacate in 2021. This year 2019 we have applied for a grant from the BBRF and if successful will have a new Shed at a new site.
