Nowra Men's Shed

The Shed was founded by Nowra Uniting Church and we started in a single car garage in Feb 2007, knowing that this could only ever be a temporary home. We then found a suitable place which was half a large farm shed with a very friendly and helpful landlord at Terara. However, we were faced with the daunting task of raising the rent each month. We moved in Nov 2008 and we soon obtained enough members and machines to fill that shed to overflowing. We soon began to actively pursue alternatives. We have formed a valuable working partnership with the Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society and together with the Spinners and Weavers, we have negotiated the occupancy of the Caretakers cottage at the Nowra Showground. Although the new shed is not bigger than the last one, it has much more usable space as the new property includes a house which provides office and amenity space. We now have our long awaited brand new shed and occupied it in December 2014. Very reluctantly, circumstances have caused us to cut the official ties to the Uniting Church and to go out on our own. However we will always retain a close friendship with them.

Activities:
Mostly Wood & Metalwork (Own or Community Projects)
We are very active in woodworking projects of all kinds, from wood turning to children's toys, to making outdoor furniture with some very experienced members who can teach those interested. We also regularly make items to order.
We also undertake some metalwork projects and hope to do more of this in the future as space and equipment permits.
We also have an ongoing project of making Myna Bird Traps for sale which provides us with much needed income.
We are a very laid back group and if you just want to visit and talk to other men, you are welcome to do that too.
