Thamarrurr Men's Shed

We believe we are the most remote Men's Shed within the Organisation. The Thamarrurr Men's Shed strives to prioritising chosen services based on community needs, implementing workplace health and safety measures, planning for continuous improvement, establishing a clear RACI framework for roles and responsibilities, securing funding from various sources, and partnering with the CDP program for case management and economic development for the local Community Men. These actions aim to create a safe and supportive environment for men to participate in healthy social, community, and cultural engagement. By doing so, the men's shed aims to improve primary health and mental health outcomes for men throughout the community and enhance their overall well-being and sense of connection.

Activities:
The Thamarrurr Men's Shed offers a range of activities aimed at promoting the well-being and engagement of men in the community. These activities focus on fostering healthy social, community, and cultural participation. Some of the activities that may be offered at the Thamarrurr Men's Shed include:
Cultural activities: The men's shed organises events and workshops that allow men to explore and celebrate their cultural heritage. This may involve traditional art and craft workshops, storytelling sessions, and cultural performances.
Educational programs: The men's shed offers educational programs and workshops to support lifelong learning. These programs may cover a wide range of topics, including health and wellness, financial literacy, and vocational skills development.
Community engagement: The men's shed actively engages with the wider community by participating in local events and initiatives. We may organise community clean-up days, volunteer for community projects, or collaborate with other organisations to address community needs.
Social gatherings: The men's shed provides a safe and welcoming space for men to socialise and build connections. Regular gatherings, such as barbecues, morning teas, or game nights, are organised to facilitate social interaction and camaraderie among the members.
We have a current MOU with NT Community Justice where we accept certain young men who been sentenced to Community Work Hours in lieu of a gaol sentence. We provide mentoring in Cultural arts and crafts as well as assign them to participate in some Community related work.
