Forster Tuncurry U3A

Forster Tuncurry U3A, established in 1994, is part of the worldwide University of the Third Age movement offering lifelong learning for retired and semi-retired people over 50. The U3A concept originated in France in 1972 and emphasises learning as an end in itself, without formal entry requirements or examinations. Courses are planned jointly by tutors and students, with learning areas negotiated to meet group needs.

The organisation provides classes held during four terms per year: February/March, May/June, July/August/September, and October/November/December. Venues include Cape Hawk Surf Lifesaving Club. The U3A welcomes active participation, with opportunities for class assistants, committee members, technical support and presentations, as well as bushwalking and social outings.

The organisation taps into the knowledge and skills of older community members, recognising the often-undervalued reservoir of experience available in retired populations. All teaching and administration is carried out by members on a voluntary basis.
