Lake Macquarie U3A

Established in 1994, Lake Macquarie U3A has grown steadily from 159 members at its first meeting to become a major community learning hub. The organisation operates on principles of self-help and mutual support, with all courses taught by volunteers. It is non-political, non-sectarian, and not-for-profit, welcoming anyone interested in lifelong learning without prior qualifications.

The U3A offers a wide range of courses across four terms, with members free to enrol in as many classes as they choose. Study covers diverse topics and there are no examinations, emphasising learning for enjoyment. The organisation encourages members to contribute as course leaders or volunteers.

Beyond education, Lake Macquarie U3A values social connections through learning, hosting regular classes, events and outings throughout the year. The organisation aims to enhance quality of life by combining intellectual engagement with active community participation and friendship networks.
