U3A Nepean Blue Mountains Inc.

U3A Nepean Blue Mountains serves retired and semi-retired people from the Nepean and Blue Mountains regions. The U3A represents the concept that the third age of life begins around the fiftieth birthday, when most work and family responsibilities are behind people, allowing pursuit of new interests and activities. The organisation is not a university in conventional terms, but rather groups of people pursuing shared interests under volunteer guidance.

Courses cover diverse topics from languages to visual arts to science to hobbies, with no examinations or homework required. Physical activities include walking groups and ballroom and line dancing classes. Offerings span interests like photography, chess, cake decorating and computing, with more than 90 courses available. Class groups are social, friendly and supportive, creating community alongside learning.

Membership provides access to multiple courses, and the U3A operates entirely on volunteer principles with course leaders sharing their expertise and knowledge. The organisation emphasises that learning can be as educational or recreational as members desire, making U3A accessible to people with varied interests and learning styles.
