Kiama U3A is a member-led, non-profit organisation facilitating lifelong learning for those who have retired or semi-retired. The U3A creates a friendly, social and informal learning environment that is non-sectarian and non-political, welcoming anyone interested in continued education. The organisation provides opportunities to share ideas, knowledge and experience while learning, laughing and getting the most from retirement.
Courses and activities are offered on a four-term basis and include general interest classes covering diverse topics, weekly talks, exercise classes such as tai chi and yoga, and excursions to places of interest. The organisation is run entirely by volunteers with an elected committee coordinating activities. Members are generally 50 and older from diverse backgrounds, many of whom serve as course leaders and facilitators.
Kiama U3A emphasises the benefits of keeping minds and bodies active through learning and social engagement. The organisation operates on the principle that all members have valuable knowledge to share, creating a truly cooperative community.
